A Short Analysis of Sentiment Analysis & Emotion Recognition

Imagine

Just imagine what would happen based upon the current AI algorithms based on sentiments and emotions used in Social Networks today, when the following post written by a new playwright by the name of William Shakespeare hits their systems:

“The first thing we do, let’s kill all the lawyers.” #legal #lawyers #killthelawyers

Good old Will is just trying to create buzz on his new play Henry VI, (self-published of course, because no publisher or literary agent would answer his query letters.)

The various social network algorithms would first pick up the word “kill” and then analyze the entire statement. The…

Entrepreneurs & Technologists: STOP Using Buzzwords to Show How Wonderful Your Next Idea, Company, and Technology Will Be

Spouting Buzzwords Often Makes You Sound Obtuse, Asinine & Just Plain Stupid

It is the end of a long day. I have just finished my fourth Zoom-Facetime-Skype conversation in three days with a company trying to recruit me, and I am fed up and disgusted. I have listened to CEO’s, CTO’s, VP’s and team leaders use buzzwords and terms which had no context in the discussions. Worse, it was apparent from those who spouted these buzzwords had absolutely no clue what they really meant.

In the era of COVID-19, and at my physical age, it is not the best advice to tell your interviewer they make little sense. Nor is it a…

Again, you can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backward. So, you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something — your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life.

In his 2005 Commencement Address to Stanford University, Steve Jobs his innovation process’s essence in the above statement. Neither data nor analytics receives mention. They are reserved for “looking backward,” e.g., into the past. …

Human Communication, Digital Alteration & the Coronavirus Disruption in Communication

INTRODUCTION

Before you begin to read below, compare the snapshot below to the numbers above. They were taken 36 hours apart. Once statistics from the USA start getting real, (at the moment reporting from the United States is not realistic), sadly these numbers will jump exponentially.

How to Contend With Age Perceptions, Judgments & Prejudice To Find Your Next Job

INTRODUCTION

At the outset, I apologize for the length of this piece. The subject covers a serious, perhaps life-altering topic for many people. It requires proper attention, and it probably should be at least twice the size it is now.

I also offer my apologies for using personal pronouns in this article. However, they are necessary because of the subject at hand, and as it is based upon personal experience, they are unavoidable. I have worked in the technology industry for 30 years as a CTO, VP R&D, Team leader, and a programmer. I have been through my share of interviews…

The Myth, The Reality, The Absurdity

Introduction:

If you are part of this new-old fashionable “appellation” of considering yourself a “fullstack programmer”, or maintain any of the myriad of titles which places you in charge of technology (e.g. CTO, VP R&D, Technology Leader etc.) you owe it to yourselves and your company to take just a few minutes to read this article. I do apologize at the outset if you personally feel this article impugns your capabilities.

Introduction

In my career, I have trolled through hundreds of articles dealing with NodeJS and many full examples of NodeJS, either in the typical MEAN stack, or specific examples using various NPM modules. An integral part of writing in NodeJS is using NPM or Yarn to install libraries which do certain things. To give an example which all Node programmers will know of, there is the Express-Passport-JWT-Mongo NPM libraries.

We all know the stack as well will not stop there. Express will probably also require installation of “body-parser” and “cors”, and possibly sub Express NPM modules. …

Introduction

Mongoose is an incredibly popular and well-done library in the NPM universe. It is used extensively by many excellent programmers based upon its Model-Schema structure. Indeed, a cursory look in Google at many examples at creating any sort of stack with Data models that include MongoDB will show you that the authors mostly include Mongoose in their development structure. It is a respected, well-kept, and incredibly popular library. All the above is true, and the authors should be lauded for their excellent skills and in understanding the needs of the community.

The above is not a disclaimer nor a cynical…

A Cynical Though Judicious Look @ Startups

Everybody knows that the boat is leaking
Everybody knows that the captain lied
Everybody got this broken feeling
Like their father or their dog just died

Songwriters: Leonard Cohen / Sharon Robinson

Introduction

Before reading this article, let’s begin with a disclaimer. As in all other things in life, not every single startup or entrepreneur fits this mold. After all, it can be argued that almost every successful high-tech company has begun as a startup. There are obviously many high-tech millionaires who made their money by creating or being part of a startup. …

Cyber Security Is A Mindset — Not A Necessary Evil

I can no longer count how many times I have encountered a totally lackadaisical attitude by technologists and programmers implementing security in development systems. This attitude often starts at the very top of the technology ladder from the CEO, CTO and down the pipeline. The conventional wisdom often seems to be that security is just implementing a password system. What goes on behind the scenes using just basic security measures, is done so often and taken for granted, most seem to think it must be one of the simplest things to implement. Today we rely on Google or Facebook Authentication…
